| Introduction Adventure Island is a game released by Hudson Soft for the NES in 1988. It was an adaptation of an arcade game called Wonder Boy, which was the name of the game when it was released for the Sega Master System. Another version for the Game Gear was entitled Revenge of the Drancon. Bug the Honey, an Anime TV series based on the game, was also aired around the time of release. |

| Description You just found out that Princess Leilani was kidnapped by the Evil Witch Doctor and taken to Adventure Island in the South Pacific. You land on Adventure Island without weapons or food. The island is thick with tropical forest, mountains and caves. Hidden on the island are your skateboard, axe, food and other helpful tools you must find by exploring the island. Better find the weapons and food quickly because you will need them to fight the Witch Doctor's spiders, snakes, bats and demons. The Evil Witch Doctor has set lots of traps for you before you can face him one on one. Are you up for the challenge?! Can you live through Adventure Island to save Princess Leilani?! Gameplay The player plays as Master Higgins who is braving this island to rescue Princess Leilani who was kidnapped by the evil Witch Doctor. Gameplay is a standard side-scrolling adventure where power-ups can be found in eggs along the way. Small things like stumbling over rocks will only decrease some of the health meter but falling into a pit or water, hitting an enemy, boulder, or fire results in instant death. Also, simply as time goes on the health meter decreases. Collecting food along the way can refill the health meter. There are certain checkpoints along the way so dying will not send you back the start of the level but the player only has three lives. After every three levels there is a boss stage. Unlimited Continues At the end of the first stage (right before the G sign), jump up at the edge of the cliff and look for an egg. This egg contains a Hudson Bee, which allows for unlimited continues. At any point where you've lost all of your lives, hit any direction on the D-pad, and press START to continue. Boss Preview Press START as a world boss retreats to get a preview of the next world's boss. Bonus Level In the middle of level one there are wooden voodoo objects. Just as the fire appears between the two voodoo objects, fire ten times even if you do not have a weapon and the entrance to a bonus level appears. Island Select Let the game get to the Title screen, then reset the system. At the Title screen, press Right, Left, Right, Left, A, B, A, B. Bonus Points In certain points in the game when you run past a red flower a coyote will appear from behind. The first of which is in level 1-4. Run past the flower, then turn and hit the coyote twice. A power up will appear in the form of a NES controller worth 1000 points.
