Introduction
720 Degrees, or 720°, was originally an arcade game that was ported to the NES. It is unique in that it was the first skateboarding game and the first extreme sports game created. The game name comes from the name of a trick, done by making two complete turns in the air on a skateboard.

Description
Hop on and hang ten as you crash around corners, swerve on sidewalks, and leap over the locals at Skate City, a skateboarder's fantasy world where virtually every surface is skateable. Flip and twist around the street fighters, Frisbee throwers, hard bodies and killer bees that jam city streets. Polish your skills and take your act to the skate parks where you'll vie for medals and cash in downhill, jump, ramp, and slalom competition. Shoot the tubes, "catch air" as you fly off ramps - master all of the moves including the dangerous 720. You'll need every edge as you try to become champion of the skating world!

Gameplay

The game allows the player to play indefinitely as long as the player keeps scoring points. The object of the game is to score points by using objects around the neighborhood to ramp off of and perform tricks in the air. By gaining points the player aquires tickets that grant him access to different skate parks. When the player enters a park for an event he has the ability to earn medals, points, and money to upgrade his equipment. Entering the park also resets a countdown timer. When the time runs down a group of killer bees comes to catch the player and the game is over. Winning the game requires the player to complete sixteen events.

There are four different styles of events in the game

Ramp: the player climbs around a half-pipe structure, trying to gain more and more height and performing tricks in the air. This tends to be the highest-scoring event.

Downhill: a long course consisting of slopes and banks must be navigated to reach a finish line. The quicker the player reaches the finish, the more points are earned.

Slalom: this is an obstacle course in which the player is required to pass between pairs of blue flags scattered across the course. Each gate passed grants a little extra time, and scoring depends on time remaining at the end.

Jump: the player jumps from a series of ramps, attempting to hit a bull’s-eye target off the screen. There are cryptic marks on the ramp before the jump that provide clues as to the location of the target, but they are difficult to use effectively. This tends to be the most difficult event.

Scattered through the levels are several 'map' icons placed on the ground which when activated give you a map with the roads, parks and your location marked on it. Also , avoiding obstacles will earn points.

An interesting fact is that the catchphrase used when time was almost up "Skate or Die", was used at the title for another popular skateboarding game.

Joshua Carnes  - Arcade versions magic lost a bit in the NES versio   |2009-08-15 08:27:42
Played in the arcade, this was also at my most remebered arcade, "Texas Comixs and Games, Arlington, TX. The main diffrence is the minus of the rotating angled joystick the arcade had. The nes controller, although a great controller, did not emulate this well. The other being the graphics went from bright solid colors, to dingy semi solid colors and textures.

The game was overall a great game, that everyone could find a favorite event to play over and over.
